The wood clay is specifically formulated to burn clean and with very little residue. To use it creatively, simply shape the wood clay into whatever form you want, let it dry, and then paint on multiple layers of metal clay paste to create the desired thickness. Once you have built up the base thickness you can embellish the shape with the addition of other metal elements created from sheet and syringe. Remember to leave a small area unpainted to allow for the wood clay to burn out.
Once firing is complete you will be left with a hollow form exactly the shape of the wood clay form you created, the wood clay simply burns away. This method is ideal for creating larger shapes while using smaller amounts of metal clay. This also has the advantage of making the item very light which is great for earrings! Remember that you can create loops for hanging by using metal clay syringe.
Wood Clay has replaced Cork Clay, it burns out completely and has non toxic fumes.
