Soutache Braid Cord, (pronounced SOO-tash) is also sometimes referred to as Russia Braid. It is one of the elements of the French art of passementerie which include the creation of tassels, fringe, military braid and other textile embellishments.

Soutache and Bead Embroidery utilises the soutache differently in that, rather than being laid flat and sewn into curving shapes onto another surface, it is stacked in multiple layers and stitched so that the edges of the soutache are what is seen ~ like looking at a sandwich from the side.
